This small lake and public access reserve is located on the outskirts of Wallerawang, which is near Lithgow.

 

 

 

This is one of the most reliable locations to photograph Musk Ducks and Great Creasted Grebes. I was last there in mid May 2009 which proved to be great time to photograph the Great Crested Grebes feeding their young.  On the map below I have marked a good spot for photographing the Grebes and Musk Ducks as the lake narrows and light is from behind (afternoon). Birds photographed include:

Yellow-rumped Thornbill      Double-barred Finch     Diamond Firetail

Purple Swamphen              Eurasian Coot              Dusky Moorhen

Musk Duck                        Australasian Grebe       Great Crested Grebe

Australasian Pipit
